7 Things To Consider When Designing A Press Kit

People are working round the clock with an aim of making their businesses to be at the next level. A lot can be done to achieve this hence; never should be complacent with just a business card or an online portfolio.

You need something more than a resume or a link to your portfolio. You require a press kit to portray you as a reliable and driven professional.

There are two kinds of press kits; a generic press which is given to any journalist of choice.

The second one is tailored for special events or conferences. Its purpose is to appeal to particular companies or people.

Be careful about the type of audience you are sending your press kit to, never to be humiliated by having journalists calling you back.

In order to design an appealing press kit, emphasize on the following:

        i. Be Unique

Doing things differently or more than the ordinary, gives people a reason to pay attention to you because you portray yourself as a unique personality.

This means that you should do something different to show people your character and vision.

A beautifully designed press kit that people will marvel at will attract more people compared to a normal one with black texts with a black background.

      ii.  Information regarding your contact and other related facts

Your contact information and other information regarding your business are essential and they should be contained on an easy to read and referenced to page. This page should contain:

  • The business name
  • Location
  • Contact information
  • Products and services offered but not a sale pitch
  • History Bio,
  • Current number of employs where applicable
  • Indicate when your business started.

    iii.  Frequently asked questions

In this page, do not put any irrelevant contents except something about your field that must interest people.

Because you have been in your field for a long time, you must have an experience on some of the common and frequently asked questions.

You must sparingly answer the questions in order to trigger the journalist, interviewer or press to contact you for an interview.

Another reason for answering some question in a sparing manner is that you need to offer something during your interview.

This section is supposed to be a resource for interviewers or journalists to help them prepare an interview or sometimes article.

    iv.  Promo materials and samples

In order to get the attention of the press, you will require offering free sample with adequate descriptions.

In case you wrote a book, sending a copy along with the press is essential.

Other options you may use to your advantage are the use of promotional pens, business cards and CD/DVD among other things that will make people marvel at your products.

v.   Visually luring

To make sure that your press kit receives the attention required, it should be eye catching.

Having a basic logo appearing on top of every page is not enough.

You require a sophisticated design, pro pictures and a strong sense of beauty exhibited by beautiful colors that complement the graphics in use.

In short, having a professional doing it for you will be the best option.

It will be much cheaper to design it yourself if you have what it takes to produce quality.

In this scenario, you stand a better chance to bring out your image.

    vi.  Testimonials

Seek permission from your customers who wrote exciting testimonials so that you can use them on this page.

Use the best testimonials because they tell a lot about you.

Through them, the press will be able to know who you have worked with besides exhibiting that you are a professional in whatever you are doing.

Good testimonial mean good service delivery so; many people will be willing to try you out.

Put the best of your testimonials on the top of this page where they can be located easily. You must avoid disgracing yourself with self testimonials.

  vii. Achievements

Besides the testimonials, it pays when you dedicate a page to explain where you have been featured.

In most cases, you might be featured in website or magazines hence; this will be your perfect platform to let the press know that you are not only success oriented but also a performer.

You may prefer merging this page with the testimonial page if you run short of great testimonials that will trigger anxiety.

In a nutshell, there are many people sending their media packages to the press hence; yours need to be outstanding. Its design must be fitting your company, style and your personality. Above all things, it has to be readable and easy to scan
