Freelance Writing Jobs For Beginners. Can I Make A Freelancer?

I am sorry because I can not provide a yes or no  answer to this question because it involves more of a lifestyle switch than a career option.

Many people are motivated by different reasons to contemplate taking freelancing as their career option or as a part time job hence; many are always anxious about their chances of succeeding in this field.

I can start by informing you that, you will need to be devoted and dedicated to hard work like any other career to make it in freelancing.

In order to answer this question in a conclusive manner, I will give you a list of self-examination questions to give you a wider view concerning whether you can become a freelancer.

        i.  Do you possess any marketable skill?

Many people have job titles and not skills. If you want to discover whether you have any skills, list down your responsibilities in your employment.

Are there other additional skills that you have developed while in your employment? These may be in form of; volunteer positions and hobbies among others.

The reason why you need to do this is that, you need to have a service that will interest people.

People require your services and pay for them so; if you have nothing to offer, count yourself unlucky for freelancing.

ii. How effective are you in communicating your skills and abilities to others?

You must be able to explain to your clients in an unequivocal and concise fashion what you can offer.

This means that you should be good at expressing yourself publicly in order to “sell” to your clients the ability to have the job done if given an opportunity.

This may be either in person or through writing depending on the seriousness of the project at hand.

    iii. How Flexible are you?

Freelancing involves tight deadlines which should be met at all costs regardless whether you are in pieces.

This means that your lifestyle has to comply with this in order to know that your working time would entirely depend on your workload and its deadline.

A freelancing lifestyle requires flexibility in how you will wish to spend your time. Those who like having certain times away, this is not for you.

iv.  Is Self-Discipline natural in you?

This tests your ability to work without supervision because most clients will hand you their projects and expect you to complete them within the agreed timeframe.

There are others who will be nagging enough to get their work done but you will require self discipline regarding proper scheduling of your time to have the projects done without being reminded or prompted to fish.

       v.  How serious are your financial obligations?

Those contemplating freelancing for as a full-time career, this is a critical aspect that needs serious consideration.

If your financial obligations are likely to strain your income, then you will need to be cautious because in freelancing, you are never assured of a continuous flow of work.

This means that if you are having a huge mortgage, many dependants, a lot of bills to pay and you have no any other savings; you may be taking a serious risk.

vi.  Do you have an alternative means of meeting your none-cash needs?

Most of the day time jobs come with a list of perks like office space, health cover, work equipment and other paid perks.

Do you have an effective plan on how you will provide these services to yourself and your family at large?

I think this is the best way I can ever answer your question. Through these guidelines, you will be able to find out whether you are suited to work as a freelancer or not.
